Kotowice - Krzeczyn (Northern section of the Kotowice - Legnica Copper Smelter gas pipeline)

The photograph shows the construction site of the gas pipeline on the northern section of the Kotowice–Krzeczyn route. Long, connected blue pipes lie in a wide trench in the ground. The work is taking place on a vast, flat expanse under a clear sky. The photograph shows forests and fields.
Gas Transmission System Operator GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. has obtained funding from the European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate, Environment 2021-2027 programme for the project "Construction of the Kotowice–Krzeczyn gas pipeline".

Basic parameters and description of the project:
  • high pressure gas pipeline,
  • diameter: 300 mm,
  • operating pressure: 5.5 MPa (adapted to an MOP pressure of 8.4 MPa),
  • length: approx. 37,9 km.

The beneficiaries of the project will be current and potential natural gas customers in the Lower Silesia Province. The investment will enable new entities to connect to the transmission network.

The aim of the investment is to construct the transmission infrastructure necessary to ensure increased and stable supplies of natural gas, as well as to protect areas of high natural value, including Natura 2000 sites.

The project will result in improved safety and reliability of the transmission infrastructure and an increase in the transmission network’s capacity in the region. An additional benefit for landowners will be a several-fold reduction in the width of the control zone along the gas pipeline. As a result, more land will be freed from restrictions on development conditions and other limitations imposed by the gas pipeline’s protection zone.

Project status:
  • gas pipeline under engineering design.

Project route and location:
The gas pipeline will be located in Lower Silesia province. Its route will run through the municipalities of Peclaw, Grębocice, Polkowice, Lubin.A map showing the route of the gas pipeline on the Kotowice–Krzeczyn section (northern section), with the project route, place names, main roads and administrative boundaries marked against the background of a map of the region.

Benefits

The construction of the Kotowice - HM Legnica Gas Pipeline, Northern Section (Kotowice - Krzeczyn) will contribute to improving the security of the transmission infrastructure and will increase the capacity of the region and the capacity of the transmission system.

The implementation of the investment will make the area more attractive for new investments and create new jobs.

An important benefit for the local community will be the property tax paid annually by GAZ-SYSTEM in the amount of 2% of the value of the transmission infrastructure under construction located in a given municipality. This will be an amount regularly flowing into the budget, which can be allocated to the needs of local communities.

Compensation payments

Under a special act regulating gas infrastructure projects, compensation payments are guaranteed to the owners of the land affected by the project development.

The compensation payment process is carried out in accordance with an administrative procedure, under the supervision of the competent Voivode. First, an independent expert is commissioned to carry out an assessment, which is the basis for determining the amount of compensation. Upon completion of the construction process, the Voivode issues an administrative decision specifying the amount of compensation due.

For more information about the compensation payments and construction process see the section For Landowners.
