Central – East Corridor
Basic parameters and description of the programme:
The Central – East Corridor programme comprises the construction of the Gustorzyn – Wronów gas pipeline and the Gas Interconnection Poland – Lithuania. The investment will create a gas corridor connecting central Poland with the north and east of the country. It will ensure the possibility of gas transmission from various directions, including, in particular, the interoperability of the national transmission system with the Poland – Lithuania gas pipeline and other interconnections, i.e. Poland – Slovakia and, in the future, Poland – Ukraine.
Benefits of the development of the Central – East Corridor:
The corridor will improve security of gas supply, especially in central and eastern Poland. A larger volume of gas in this part of the country will be supplied through the Gustorzyn – Wronów gas pipeline to customers connected to distribution networks and direct customers from the power and heat generation sectors, e.g. Veolia, Enea.
The Gustorzyn – Wronów gas pipeline will also enable the supply to Kielce, Radom, Opoczno and other neighbouring regions, thus enabling distribution system operators to provide more efficient gas supply to municipalities in the area. The connection of the Gustorzyn – Wronów gas pipeline in Rawa Mazowiecka to the existing transmission system will also significantly improve the supply to the Warsaw area.
The Gas Interconnection Poland – Lithuania as part of the Central – East Corridor create opportunities for gas transmission to the Baltic States (Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia). At the same time, it improve Poland’s energy security by providing a bidirectional international interconnection enabling gas imports and exports between Poland and Lithuania. The Gas Interconnection Poland – Lithuania also play an important regional role by improving access to gas supply in north-eastern Poland.
