In March 2025, GAZ-SYSTEM organised a workshop dedicated to the development of hydrogen infrastructure in Poland. The event was an excellent opportunity to present the results of the ‘Hydrogen Map of Poland’ survey.

Last year, GAZ-SYSTEM conducted the Hydrogen Map of Poland survey aiming to estimate the potential for the production, consumption, distribution and storage of hydrogen on the Polish market, as well as the interest in utilising the transmission network to transport hydrogen. The workshop included the presentation of the Hydrogen Map of Poland survey results and covered a number of other issues related to the characteristics of the hydrogen market in Poland, including the legal and regulatory environment, development of new competences, planning and concept development, as well as mechanism to support connecting H2 production with entities interested in its supply. The event was attended remotely or in person by approx. 200 participants representing various administration bodies and companies involved in the development of hydrogen market sector in Poland.

- The amendment to the Energy Law assigns a new role to GAZ-SYSTEM – the role of hydrogen transmission system operator in Poland. We embrace this challenge and will be actively involved in the development of this new market. We are aiming to create a platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience and enabling cooperation  of all participants in the future hydrogen market. Organising these regular workshops is one of the ways leading to just that – said Sławomir Hinc, President of GAZ-SYSTEM.

The preliminary directions for the development of the hydrogen transmission network have been determined based on the results of market analyses conducted to date. GAZ-SYSTEM’s contribution to the development of the National Hydrogen Transmission Network covers the following areas:
  • planning the routes of national transmission pipelines;
  • planning the interconnections enabling hydrogen import and export to/from Poland;
  • analysis of the possibility to adapt selected sections of the natural gas transmission network to hydrogen transmission (repurposing);
  • demand modelling to estimate the necessary hydrogen storage capacity.
Currently, GAZ-SYSTEM is focused on defining the conditions for the construction and parameters of the planned hydrogen infrastructure, preparing the necessary documentation comprising:
  • Feasibility Study for the national hydrogen transmission network –  the stage of preparing tender documentation for the contractor selection;
  • Feasibility Study for the Pomeranian Green Hydrogen Cluster – contractor selection procedure already announced;
  • Repurposing study – the stage of defining the possibilities for converting selected elements of the natural gas transmission network to hydrogen transport;
  • Feasibility Study for the Nordic-Baltic Hydrogen Corridor – the stage of preparing tender documentation for the contractor selection.
GAZ-SYSTEM intends to continue open dialogue with market participants, by taking into account representatives of all links in the supply chain in the sector.
