Joint efforts to extend the LNG Terminal in Świnoujście

– Today's ceremony is a milestone in tightening relationships with our stakeholders. I am glad that, when handling an important and challenging project of extending the LNG Terminal, we have partners, who are aware of a strategic meaning of this investment - said Bartłomiej Słoma, CEO of Polskie LNG. – Acting jointly, we intend to enhance the security level, both in terms of operations conducted by the LNG Terminal (now and following the extension), and a widely understood energy security of Poland - added Słoma.
The Governor of Zachodniopomorskie Voivodeship was involved in arranging of the memorandum of understanding and the agreement.
– The extension of the terminal and its security are key issues not only to development of the Western Pomerania region, yet this is a matter of raison d'état - emphasized Krzysztof Kozłowski, the Governor of Zachodniopomorskie Voivodeship. – I am pleased that so soon after the terminal had been commissioned, it was decided to carry out extension works - added up Kozłowski.
Owing to the memorandum of understanding signed with the Border Guard, it is likely to launch joint actions heading for locating of the spot for Border Guard vessels, within the dock of the Świnoujście Port.
– One of our priorities is to guarantee security and that is why, from the moment the terminal has been set up, vessels belonging to the Maritime Department of the Border Guard assist to our ships and therefore, a permanent presence of the Border Patrols in the terminal area will certainly improve the safety, that is also favorable to the port itself and the entire local community - stated the Commander of the Border Guard, Ph.D., Piotr PATLA, Commanding Officer of the Martime Department of the Border Guard.
On the other hand, the agreement on extension of the installation of the LNG Terminal made with Seaports Authorities of Szczecin and Świnoujście will result in collaboration on sharing of information and documentation related to the construction of the second quay.
– Selecting the Świnoujście Harbor as a location for the LNG inbound terminal has been an ultimately crucial decision, both for development of the port itself and the city, and the region of Western Pomerania as well. This investment may contribute to Świnoujście to become the Baltic leader in LNG handling. The construction of the second quay will enable LNG Terminal to provide supplementary services, i.e. loading and unloading of small and medium tankers, LNG handling of the transshipment type (from the vessel at the transshipment terminal to the vessel at the unloading terminal), loading of the vessels bunkering liquefied natural gas and bunkering of natural gas – said Dariusz Słaboszewski, CEO of ZMPSiŚ S.A. (Seaports Authorities of Szczecin and Świnoujście).
The LNG Terminal is an important component of the Northern Gate. It will allow us for building a full independence of Poland in terms of gas deliveries, integrate the European gas transmission system and, in effect, strengthen the position of our country at the gas map of Europe.
– The extension of the terminal based in Świnoujście is an element of the complex development strategy introduced by GAZ-SYSTEM Capital Group. Improvement of functionalities and new services based on LNG will serve to and expand the natural gas market in Poland. We also see a huge potential in the Baltic Sea area, when it comes to liquefied natural gas – remarked Paweł Jakubowski, Head of the Development Department, GAZ SYSTEM.
The decision on the extension of the LNG w Terminal in Świnoujście was taken on a basis of the output received from the feasibility study, that had been delivered in the end of August, 2017. The project is going to be co-financed with the EU funds, within the Action 7.1. of the Operational Program Infrastructure and Environment. The extension works on the Terminal, i.e. building of the second quay, are scheduled to be closed in 2021.
