Extended technical capacities for gas import to Poland from the West

On 1 April 2014, German  operator GASCADE Gastransport GmbH puts into operation the expanded station in Mallnow at the Polish and German border. The Mallnow station was expanded on the basis of the agreement signed between GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. and GASCADE in November 2012.
The project located at the connection of the Polish section of the Jamal Gas Pipeline and the transmission system owned by the German operator, GASCADE, is essential for the improvement of import capacities between Poland and Germany.
The project meets European guidelines for physical bidirectional gas flows in cross-border interconnections defined in the Regulation of the European Parliament and the Council (EU) No. 994/2010 concerning measures to safeguard security of gas supply.
As a part of the reverse transmission service on a fixed basis, it will be technically possible to  import up to 2.3 billion m3/year (around 263 000 m3/h) to Poland starting already from 1 April 2014. In the case of emergency (the suspension of supplies from the East to Germany), it will be possible to receive 620 000 m3/h (i.e. approximately 5.5 billion m3/year).
Thanks to the modernisation of the Mallnow station, services provided therein may be changed from interruptible into firm services and GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. will be able to guarantee fully certain gas supply to its customers at the off-take points of the Jamal gas pipeline in Poland.
Free Jamal gas pipeline capacities are made available to customers via auctions.
Since 2010, GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. is an independent operator of the Jamal gas pipeline in Poland.
