In response to increased demand for gas from commercial power producers and distributors, the Company intends to construct four new gas transmission pipelines of a total length of 60 km on the outskirts of Warsaw. Currently, GAZ-SYSTEM is starting the preparation of public procurement procedures for the selection of contractors for the construction works. The estimated CAPEX of all development projects in the Warsaw metropolitan area amounts to over PLN 400 million.

GAZ-SYSTEM is adapting the transmission system supplying the capital city and surrounding municipalities to meet the demand stemming from energy transition. In the first stage, it involves the use of natural gas being a low-carbon fuel for the purposes of power generation and heat production. Once all the Company's investment projects have been completed, the overall gas transmission capacity across the Warsaw municipal area will increase to over 2 billion cubic metres per year.

- In order to meet the development needs of the Warsaw municipal area, we have just decided on the necessary expansion of our transmission network in the vicinity of the capital city of Poland. Owing to our investment projects, the energy transition will proceed smoothly and safely for residents. Based on reliable gaseous fuel which guarantees continuity of supply during periods of peak energy consumption, the renewable energy sector can be developed further as a substantial component contributing to improving air quality in the capital city and the surrounding municipalities, noted Sławomir Hinc, President of the Management Board of GAZ-SYSTEM.

Reinforcing the security of energy supply to Warsaw is a comprehensive investment program comprising the commissioning of the new DN 700 Rembelszczyzna – Mory gas pipeline measuring approx. 28.5 km, and the construction of four new gas pipelines located in the capital city and several surrounding municipalities:
  • Gas pipeline DN 700 Stanisławów – Wola Karczewska measuring approx. 38 km,
  • Gas pipeline DN 500 Wola Karczewska – Karczew measuring approx. 15 km,
  • Gas pipeline DN 400 Karczew – Gassy measuring approx. 2 km,
  • Gas pipeline DN 400 Mory – Reguły measuring approx. 5,2 km.
The Company has already obtained most of the environmental permits required for these investment projects. The location decisions have already been issued for the routes of two gas pipelines: Mory – Reguły and Wola Karczewska – Karczew, and construction permits are pending. GAZ-SYSTEM implements its investment process in a transparent manner, with numerous information meetings organised for residents at both the design and construction stages, and in consultation with local authorities in the communities along the routes of all investment projects concerned.

Further information on the planned investment projects is available on GAZ-SYSTEM website: Other major investment projects.

The ‘Rembelszczyzna - Mory’ project is co-financed from the European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate and Environment 2021-2027 (FEnIKS) programme. The value of the project (total project cost) specified in the co-financing agreement is PLN 470,813,949.22, while the contribution from European Funds amounts to PLN 270,524,913.26.
