In December 2025, GAZ-SYSTEM, the operator of the LNG Terminal in Świnoujście, was certified by the Oil and Gas Institute for compliance of its operations with the requirements of the EU's Renewable Energy Directive on sustainable development.

On the basis of the KZR (National Sustainable Development System) certificate from the Oil and Gas Institute – National Research Institute (INiG) granted to GAZ-SYSTEM, the company is expanding the offer of the LNG Terminal in Świnoujście with a new service of issuing PoS Certificates – Proof of Sustainability. The service covers processing LNG as part of regasification and additional services.

- This certificate awarded to GAZ-SYSTEM means that the company has joined the sustainable supply chain of feedstock used for the production of biofuels, bioliquids and biomass fuels, including biomethane and bioLNG. Following this certification, the infrastructure currently providing security of gas supplies may also contribute to the long-term energy transition by handling renewable fuels such as bioLNG and biomethane, noted Elżbieta Kramek, Vice-President of GAZ-SYSTEM.

The KZR INiG certification and PoS services align with GAZ-SYSTEM's efforts to promote energy transition. These solutions enable the utilisation of the LNG Terminal's infrastructure not only in the current gas market model, but also for renewable and low-carbon fuels, such as bioLNG and biomethane. As a result, the Terminal supports the decarbonisation of the energy industry and transport sector, as a bridging fuel between traditional energy carriers and low-carbon economy.

The sustainability certification service will complement regasification and additional services offered at the LNG Terminal in Świnoujście. PoS Certificates will be issued in accordance with the principles of the sustainable development chain, supporting GAZ-SYSTEM's customers in implementing their ESG strategies and long-term energy transition goals.

The new PoS service is intended to support Terminal users in their efforts to achieve climate goals and meet the regulatory requirements of the RED Directive and other EU frameworks through transparent and auditable processes.

The certification process was preceded by extensive preparations including the development and implementation of the required internal regulations and the selection of an accredited certification body by an interdisciplinary team at GAZ-SYSTEM. The result of compliance audit conducted by Bureau Veritas Polska Sp. z o.o. was positive.

Additional information:
The KZR INiG system by the Oil and Gas Institute – National Research Institute is an internationally recognised, voluntary and global certification scheme for the sustainable production of biofuels, bioliquids and feedstock. The system is fully compliant with the RED Directive and certifies compliance with sustainability criteria on domestic and international markets.

The RED (Renewable Energy Directive) is a European Union directive which sets out the legal framework for the development and use of renewable energy sources in Member States. The overall objective of this regulation is to increase the share of renewable energy sources in final energy consumption, reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and support the energy transition process. The Directive also introduces sustainability and emission reduction criteria for biofuels, bioliquids and biomass fuels, as well as certification and reporting obligations throughout the supply chain, ensuring transparency and comparability of data at European Union level.
