GAZ-SYSTEM breaks record in the use of EU funds for strategic investments in 2022

Last year the European Union granted GAZ-SYSTEM over PLN 1.3 billion in EU funds. With such generous financial support it was possible to accomplish a number of strategic projects ensuring actual diversification of natural gas supply sources to Poland including Baltic Pipe, transmission system interconnectors with Lithuania and Slovakia, expansion of the LNG Terminal in Świnoujście, as well as to provide secure gas supplies to customers via the North-South Gas Corridor.
- GAZ-SYSTEM is one of the largest beneficiaries of EU funds in Poland in the field of infrastructure projects. EU support is very much needed in view of the ongoing large-scale gas transmission system expansion process, as it enables the effective and timely delivery of the investment projects. The co-funding awarded to key development projects confirms their great significance for the improvement of energy security not only in Poland, but also in the Baltic States and Central and Eastern Europe said Andrzej Kensbok, Vice President of GAZ-SYSTEM.
The events of 2022 proved that the strategic directions adopted with regard to security of gas supply were the most appropriate. Ensuring diversification of gas supply sources continues to be the highest priority for GAZ-SYSTEM.
For many years now, GAZ-SYSTEM has been actively applying for EU funds for investments to support the implementation of diversification projects. Under the 2014-2020 financial perspective ending in 2023 almost all GAZ-SYSTEM's projects received EU funding. The Company benefits from two programmes:
- Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment (OPI&E) providing funding primarily to domestic investment projects.
- The Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) programme offering financing instruments for international and trans-European projects.
The total amount of funding allocated to GAZ-SYSTEM's projects in the current EU financial perspective has reached the equivalent of approximately PLN 5.7 billion.
