A sound start of the gas year for the transmission system

The accelerated vessel and tank truck handling at the LNG Terminal in Świnoujście, resilient gas transmission via interconnectors with Lithuania and Slovakia and launching the operation of Baltic Pipe at its full capacity - these are the main objectives GAZ-SYSTEM has met over the past year. Despite the shutdown of supplies from Russia and the ongoing war in the east, Polish transmission system continues to operate steadily and delivers natural gas to consumers as ordered.

In 2022, Gaz-System transferred almost 19 bcm of gas (including the operation of underground gas storage facilities).

Last year, 58 methane carriers arrived at the LNG Terminal in Świnoujście which means almost five deliveries per month on average. There has been a significant increase compared to 2021 and 2020 which have seen 35 vessels handled annually. This year, the LNG Terminal named after President Lech Kaczyński received the first LNG cargo already on 6 January. By the end of this year, over 60 vessels will have been handled. The second phase of the LNG Terminal expansion is also underway, and the entire facility is expected to be completed in late 2023 or early 2024.

The absence of threats related to natural gas shortages and the sound operation of the system are possible mainly owing to the recently completed investment projects of key importance to the country's energy security: interconnectors with Denmark, Lithuania and Slovakia, the North-South Corridor, as well as the finished first stage of expansion of the LNG Terminal. The total length of gas pipelines currently operated by GAZ-SYSTEM has exceeded 11,800 km, including almost 1,000 km commissioned over the past year.
