The European Parliament adopted the fourth PCI list that includes key investments promoted by GAZ-SYSTEM

Photo of the article On 12 February 2020, the European Parliament approved the fourth list of projects of common interest (PCI). PCI projects are key infrastructure investments aimed at increasing the level of security and competition on the European energy market. Their implementation will also contribute towards meeting EU climate and environmental objectives.
GAZ-SYSTEM maintained on the PCI list its key investments in Central-Eastern Europe. This is all the more important as the fourth PCI includes 40% fewer gas projects that the previous list.
The fourth PCI list contains GAZ-SYSTEM investments in two priority corridors defined in Regulation No. 347/2013 on guidelines for trans-European energy infrastructure (TEN-E Regulation):

1.       under the "Baltic Energy Market Interconnection Plan (BEMIP):

·         Baltic Pipe Project,

·         Gas Interconnection Poland - Lithuania (GIPL).

2.       under the "North-South Gas Interconnections in Central and South-Eastern Europe" corridor

·         Poland - Slovakia interconnection with the North-South gas corridor in Eastern Poland,

·         FSRU in Gdansk.

- The fact that the European Parliament has confirmed the priority status on the 4th PCI list to our projects confirms the crucial role of GAZ-SYSTEM in achieving the objectives of the European Union. Our projects contribute towards increasing security of supplies, developing gas markets and fostering activities related to the environment and climate. The current PCI list includes the company's strategic projects that were already considered as priority projects on the previous lists, and a new investment - FSRU in the Port of Gdańsk - says Artur Zawartko, Vice-President of the Management Board of GAZ-SYSTEM.
PCI projects may benefit from best practices resulting from the TEN-E Regulation which means, among other things, the possibility to take advantage of the accelerated permitting process and special regulatory solutions provided for in Regulation 347/2013. If certain conditions are met, the PCI status also enables the application for co-financing under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).
In line with TEN-E Regulation PCI projects shall contribute to the implementation of priority corridors of energy infrastructure and significantly contribute towards improving security of supplies, market integration and competition. PCI projects are also meant to support actions undertaken by member states in the area of climate and environment.
