Selected infrastructure projects of GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. were awarded the status of projects of common interest (PCI)

Photo of the article On 14 October 2013, the European Commission published the first European list of projects in the natural gas sector that would be awarded the status of projects of common interest (PCI). This list is a stage of works of the Commission based on Regulation (EU) No. 347/2013 on guidelines for trans-European energy infrastructure, the purpose of which is fostering market integration and enhancing security of natural gas supply. Infrastructure projects of GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. were analysed and assessed, and subsequently were given priority status within two regional gas initiatives.

North-South gas interconnections in Central-Eastern Europe and South-Eastern Europe:
  • Western line of the North-South corridor in Poland together with the Poland – Czech Republic interconnection.
  • Eastern line of the North-South corridor in Poland together with the Poland – Slovakia interconnection.

Baltic Energy Market Interconnections Plan (BEMIP) for gas:
  • Poland – Lithuania interconnection.
  • Baltc Pipe pipeline.
  • Extension of LNG terminal in Świnoujście.
  • Extension of entry points to Yamal pipeline in Lwówek and Włocławek.

The status of Projects of Common Interest confirms the importance of infrastructure investments undertaken by GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. in the context of the development of the integrated and competitive natural gas market in Central Europe, as well as their contribution to security of supply and diversification of natural gas supply sources.
In justified instances, the projects of common interest will be eligible to receive Union financial assistance within a Connecting Europe Facility (CEF). In the new 2014-2020 financial perspective, CEF will be the instrument used by the European Commission to provide co-financing for projects supporting achievements of priority objectives of the EU energy policy.
