Information about the repair of a gas pipeline in Janków Przygodzki
In order to cut out the damaged fragment of the gas pipeline, GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. separated the section and closed the gas access from both sides tightly. The gas pipeline was also subject to nitrification. This consists of removing gas from the damaged fragment and ensuring safe conditions for the performance of welding and repair works. GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. will repair the pipeline after prosecutors finish their investigation on site and the place of the accident is checked by building inspection.
Fire at the place of the accident has been extinguished. No breaks in gas supply are planned.
Today GAZ-SYSTEM S.A., in consultation with the head of the municipality of Przygodzice, will give PLN 240 000 to support families that suffered as a result of the accident.
Representatives of GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. are in touch with local authorities to arrange further aid. Since the receipt of information about the accident, the Company has been also in touch with its insurer. GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. will use its property insurance and general liability insurance. In addition, newly constructed projects are covered with Contractors’ Construction All Risk / Erection All Risk insurance (CAR/EAR) and general liability insurance. This means that, after actual damages are estimated, injured persons will be able to receive more funds for the removal of damages.
In accordance with the decision of the Energy Regulatory Office (gas transmission concession), GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. must meet technical conditions for gas transmission as defined in separate regulations and, in particular, keep facilities, installations and network in the adequate technical condition, which allows for continuous and reliable transmission of gas subject to applicable regulations providing for technical, quality and environmental requirements.
Operating parameters of the transmission network related to flow and pressure are monitored on a remote and continuous basis (24 hours a day) by services in charge of system operation, i.e. the Branch Gas Dispatching Centers and National Gas Dispatching Center..
Activities related to the maintenance of the transmission system are carried out on the basis of applicable regulations and internal procedures, as well as transmission network maintenance instructions. In accordance with the procedure ”Technical Terms and Conditions for Transmission Network Operation", key activities connected with the control of the route of a gas pipeline and an overhead part are carried out at least once a quarter. Such activities include, without limitation, the control of gas pipelines from the air (flights), control of a route and overhead infrastructure (valve and extraction elements, columns, marking posts), the control of the operation of corrosion prevention devices. Additionally, at least once a year, tests are made and the depth of the gas pipeline foundation is measured. Further works comprise the verification and inspection of cutting fittings at the linear part and are carried out in accordance with the producer's technical and operating documentation. All the above activities are planned in yearly work schedules and carried out by the operator's own staff. The technical condition of pipelines is evaluated once a year on the basis of the above activities and incidents recorded for each gas pipeline during the year. Based on evaluation results, a given gas pipeline is recommended for further operation, repair or modernisation.
The unsealed gas pipeline was subject to all operations in accordance with GAZ-SYSTEM S.A.'s procedures.
