Gas Interconnection Poland – Lithuania (the GIPL Project): works conducted on the Polish side

Photo of the article GAZ-SYSTEM informs that during the implementation of the Gas Interconnection Poland – Lithuania (the GIPL Project), several technical issues which may significantly impact the completion of that Project within the anticipated time frame have been encountered.. Taking the above into consideration as well as the significance of the project itself, GAZ-SYSTEM  has proposed the new routing of the pipeline on the Polish side.
The new routing of the pipeline addresses the same goals as the original routing and does not affect the technical parameters of the project on the Lithuanian side, says Tomasz Stępień, the President of the Management Board of GAZ SYSTEM. The modification of the technical assumptions on the Polish side is neutral to the project scope on the Lithuanian part and does not affect the location of the cross-border interconnection point, which remains unchanged.

The Company expects that the new approach to the GIPL Project will strengthen the technical aspects of the project and will secure its implementation in the years to follow. At present, GAZ-SYSTEM is preparing the Technical Feasibility Study for the new routing of the pipeline that should be ready by mid-2017.
GAZ-SYSTEM remains committed to implement the GIPL Project. The implementation of the GIPL Project has been recognized as one of the most important infrastructure investments in the EU. It will provide the security of supply to the Baltic Region and is of a crucial importance to finish the isolation of the Baltic States and integrate regional gas market. The fact that GIPL has been identified as a project of common interest (PCI)emphasizes its significant role in improvement of security of gas supplies to the Baltic States as well as the development of a competitive gas market, GAZ-SYSTEM is dedicated to the completion of the GIPL Project as soon as possible.
