First commercial LNG gas deliveries to Świnoujście
On 17 June 2016, the first ship arrived at the LNG Terminal in Świnoujście carrying liquefied natural gas. The delivery of LNG is carried out under the Regasification Agreement concluded in March 2010 between Polskie LNG S.A. and PGNiG S.A. The supplier of the gas is Qatargas Operating Company Limited. The Q-flex type ship chartered by Qatargas, under the name of Al-Nuaman, delivered 210 thousand cubic meters of liquefied gas (LNG) to the newly-built LNG Terminal in Świnoujście. The Q-flex ship is on o the largest vessels which enter the Świnoujście port. It is 315 meters long, 50 meters wide and its immersion is at the level of 12.5 meters. “The unloading of LNG will last approx. 24 hours. During the day, the LNG will be pumped from the vessels to the contained located on the land section of the LNG Terminal which have a total capacity of 320 thousand cubic meters. Transport of gas, after performance of the regasification process (i.e. transformation from liquid to gas form) shall ensure more than 120 million square meters of raw materials which will enter the national transmission network”,said Tomasz Stępień, President of GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. The first commercial delivery was preceded by a number of tests. In December 2015, and then in February 2016, the Al-Nuaman ships arrived in Świnoujście with deliveries of the raw materials required for test start-up and launch of the installation. The LNG Terminal in Świnoujście is one of the most important elements of gaining Poland’s energy self-sufficiency and diversification of sources of gas. LNG Terminal was granted permission to operate in April 2016, and in May the final acceptance test was carried out. It may deliver up to 5 billion square meters of gas a year to the Polish transmission network. It is the only infrastructure of that size in Northern as well as Central and Eastern Europe. Polskie LNG S.A., a Subsidiary owned by GAZ-SYSTEM S.A, was responsible for construction of the investment.
