EU financial support for the Poland-Slovakia pipeline

The Poland - Slovakia pipeline connection along with the development of the natural gas internal infrastructure in Poland is part of the North-South Corridor, meaning the key project of the gas infrastructure planned in Central and Eastern and South Eastern Europe for the purpose in increasing the regional diversification and gas supply security.
The European Union's financial support for the Poland - Slovakia pipeline is an undoubted success for both parties to the project. The connection will open the Slovak market for the import of gas from the LNG terminal in Świnoujście – said Tomasz Stępień, CEO of GAZ-SYSTEM.
The two-way connection between Poland - Slovakia will connect the gas transfer systems of both countries: the Slovak gas compressor station is located in Veľké Kapušany and the gas interconnection point in Strachocina. The entire length of the pipeline amounts to 164 km out of which 58 km lies on the territory of Poland. The Poland - Slovakia inter-system connection project also covers the necessary development of the internal industrial network in South-Eastern Poland, the construction of a compressor station in Strachocina, modification of the existing compressor station in Veľké Kapušany and the construction of a measuring station close to the Polish-Slovak border.
In October 2013, the European Commission gave the Poland - Slovakia gas pipeline connection the status of Project of Common Interest - PCI. In 2015, GAZ-SYSTEM and EUSTREAM received financial support from the European Union for the planning and design works in the scope of this project.
