Czeszów - Kiełczów gas pipeline ready for operation
GAZ-SYSTEM has completed the construction of the gas pipeline between Czeszów and Kiełczów, which is part of the North-South Corridor. Together with the remaining DN 1000 mm gas pipelines, i.e. Zdzieszowice - Wrocław and Czeszów - Wierzchowice, it will be possible to receive increased quantities of raw material from the President Lech Kaczyński LNG Terminal in Świnoujście and, in the near future, from the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline, which will connect Poland with gas deposits on the Norwegian Shelf.
The Czeszów - Kiełczów gas pipeline is about 32.5 km long and has a diameter of 1000 mm. It is located in the Lower Silesian region in the communes of Zawonia and Długołęka. It is part of the North-South Gas Corridor, which will allow full integration of the transmission infrastructure in this part of Europe. - The North-South project is a very important element in building Poland's independence in the field of natural gas supply, says Artur Zawartko, Vice-President of GAZ-SYSTEM. - Consistently expanded transmission system, new directions of supply, LNG Terminal and Baltic Pipe as well as cross-border connections are new development prospects and a strong position of our country in Europe - he adds.
- The gas pipeline is important for ensuring flexibility of gas supplies to the agglomerations of Lower and Upper Silesia and the Opole region. Thanks to this investment and the commissioning of the Czeszów - Wierzchowice gas pipeline in 2017, we are ready to transport gas in the north-south direction through the Lower Silesian region, using an underground gas storage facility in Wierzchowice. The Czeszów - Kiełczów gas pipeline together with the project was built within five years. It required about 2400 welds, overcoming 30 obstacles with the trenchless method, including two HDD drills (Horizontal Directional Drilling) with a length of approx. 500 m and approx. 650 m in order to preserve valuable natural sites intact. On the gas pipeline route there are also two dam and relief systems in Miłonowice and Kiełczów, summarised Michał Lipowski, Director of the GAZ-SYSTEM in Wrocław.
The value of the entire investment exceeded PLN 120 million. The gas pipeline was built by a consortium of companies composed of Budimex S.A. (consortium leader) and Mostostal Kraków S.A. (consortium partner).
The construction of the gas pipeline was co-financed by the European Union:
• from the European Regional Development Fund under the Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment 2007-2013 for project documentation in the amount of over PLN 833 thousand.
• from the resources of the European Regional Development Fund within the Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment 2014-2020 in the target amount of approx. PLN 73 million.
