Consent to building an LNG terminal in Świnoujście

Photo of the article On 15 July 2009, special purpose vehicle Polskie LNG sp. z o.o., owned by Gas Transmission Operator GAZ-SYSTEM S.A., received a decision permitting the building of an LNG re-gasification terminal in the land part of Świnoujście, signed by Marcin Zydorowicz, the Governor of Zachodniopomorskie Province.
The building permit application with the working design was submitted to the Office of Zachodniopomorskie Province on 12 May 2009.
The establishment of the LNG terminal will enable receiving liquid natural gas from a new direction, independent from the existing directions, thus contributing to increasing the energy security of the country.
The LNG terminal will be located on the right bank of the River Świna in Warszów District, on a plot long ago earmarked for the development of the port. The area of the investment site is approximately 40 ha. Commencing construction works will be possible after selecting the General Contractor of the project, which is planned for mid-2010. The terminal will allow the receipt of up to 5 billion cubic metres of natural gas per year. Depending on the growing demand for gas, it will be possible to expand its annual capacity even to 7.5 billion m3, without having to enlarge the site. The LNG terminal in Świnoujście is to have two tanks with a capacity of 160,000 m3 each.
Polskie LNG has already obtained the environmental decisions for the project, covering both the land and sea part. The decisions confirm that the project poses no threat to the areas included in NATURA 2000 and does not violate their integrity. Polskie LNG has also announced the open season procedure. Its objective is to determine the market demand for re-gasification services, as well as ensuring equal and transparent rules of access to the new infrastructure for all interested gas market players.
In July 2009, Gas Transmission Operator GAZ-SYSTEM S.A., took a decision on increasing its share capital by PLN 60 million (to PLN 110 million). There are plans to increase the share capital of Polskie LNG by another PLN 60 million by the end of the year. Increasing the share capital of Polskie LNG is to guarantee the financing of the tasks envisaged in the Świnoujście LNG terminal construction schedule, including purchase of the land and preparation of the building site.
According to the schedule, the LNG terminal in Świnoujście is to be open in the year 2014.
