GAZ SYSTEM and the City of Gdańsk have signed an agreement to cooperate on the construction of a bicycle path and parking spaces for vehicles along Stogi Street, as well as the planting of 90,000 trees in the forest in Górki Zachodnie. This agreement is the result of a public consultation process between the company and the local community.

The FSRU Terminal and associated infrastructure for the transmission of natural gas are being built in the Gulf of Gdańsk, in the Krakowiec–Górki Zachodnie district. This is a strategic investment project designed to strengthen Poland’s energy security and to consolidate our country’s position as the regional gas hub. As part of this project, GAZ-SYSTEM has agreed with local stakeholders on the principles and conditions for further local projects, which will ensure unimpeded access to the marina, sports centre and beach in Górki Zachodnie, and will contribute to the enrichment of the surrounding forest with new trees.

- As we expand the transmission network, we take a responsible approach to its immediate surroundings. We listen very carefully to residents’ concerns and take steps to improve the quality of their daily lives. The signed agreement will improve safety for road users and enhance the natural beauty of this part of Gdańsk.  I would like to thank everyone involved in the dialogue for their commitment and open-mindedness. These qualities have enabled us to work together to develop solutions that take into account the various needs and expectations associated with this project – says Sławomir Hinc, President of GAZ SYSTEM Management Boards.

- From the perspective of Poland’s security, it is becoming increasingly clear just how important a role Gdańsk and Pomerania play in building our country’s energy independence.  This applies not only to offshore wind power or the planned nuclear power station, but also to the security of gas supplies. I congratulate President Sławomir Hinc and GAZ-SYSTEM, on implementing this strategic investment, which is an important step towards Poland’s energy security. I am also pleased that the project is accompanied by practical initiatives for the benefit of local residents, including new tree planting, the construction of a shared-use path for pedestrians and bicycles, as well as a car park in Górki Zachodnie.  This demonstrates that responsible investment can combine strategic objectives with the well-being of the local community and the quality of life of the residents  – says Aleksandra Dulkiewicz, Mayor of the City of Gdańsk.

As part of the agreement, the company has committed to building an approx. 2 km-long cycling path running along Stogi Street, within the area of the current installation corridor for the Kolnik - Gdańsk pipeline section. Furthermore, at the site of the FSRU Terminal construction facilities, around 100 vehicle parking spaces will be created, complete with a rest area and bicycle stands. Both concepts were drawn up by the City of Gdańsk and presented as solutions requested by residents.

Improving safety in the area around Stogi Street, where heavy traffic and lack of parking cause disruption and unsafe situations, such as blocking access for emergency services, is of particular importance. The new infrastructure is intended to enhance the visitors’ experience in recreational areas, including the popular beach in Górki Zachodnie.

GAZ SYSTEM will plant around 90,000 trees, subject to an extended five-year nurturing period initiated by the company.  The planting locations have been agreed with the Public Roads and Greenery Authority in Gdańsk for both onshore and offshore program components. The company has also agreed to relocate some of the plantings from the area of the planned bicycle path and parking areas to other locations indicated by the local stakeholders.

The signed agreement sets out the responsibilities of the parties and the principles of cooperation between GAZ-SYSTEM and the City of Gdańsk, and paves the way for the project to go ahead once work on the FSRU Terminal is complete.

About the FSRU Programme

The LNG terminal in the Gulf of Gdańsk is among strategic investment projects implemented by GAZ SYSTEM, devised to bolster Poland’s energy resilience and diversify the sources of natural gas supply. As part of the FSRU (Floating Storage Regasification Unit) Program, a terminal will be built comprising a vessel and associated offshore and onshore infrastructure, enabling the unloading, in-process storage and regasification of liquefied natural gas delivered by sea and a 250 km-long gas transmission pipeline from Gdańsk to Gustorzyn.

The liquefied natural gas received and regasified at the FSRU Terminal will be forwarded into the domestic transmission network to be distributed to customers in Poland and the neighbouring countries. The project represents an important element in the expansion of the gas transmission infrastructure and in enhancing the resilience of the Polish gas market. The Terminal will be commissioned in 2028.

Funding for the construction works on the onshore component of the FSRU Programme

On 13 June 2025, GAZ-SYSTEM signed a loan agreement with Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego for the construction of the onshore component of the FSRU Programme, i.e. the Gdańsk - Gustorzyn gas pipeline. The loan, for a total amount of PLN 2.2 billion, is financed under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
