Polish Transmission System Operators Join Forces in Brussels
Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne (PSE), GAZ-SYSTEM and PERN have incorporated the Polish Energy Infrastructure House (PEIH). The objective of the new organisation is to represent the operators of the strategic energy infrastructure within the European Union forum. Based in Brussels, the organisation will provide a framework for collaboration and engagement with European Union bodies on matters critical to energy security, the energy transition and increasing the competitiveness of the European economy.
– Given Poland’s exceptional experience in fostering energy resilience, we aim to ensure this perspective is strongly represented in the European debate. Founding the Polish Energy Infrastructure House is a strategic move towards effective advocacy of solutions that serve the security and competitiveness of Poland and the EU as a whole, said Wojciech Wrochna, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Energy and Government Plenipotentiary for Strategic Energy Infrastructure.
PEIH will actively contribute to the debates on European regulations, infrastructure development strategies, financing instruments, as well as the security and interconnectedness of energy systems across Europe.
– The European Commission has designated electrification as a core pillar for the development of the EU economy. Its progress will depend largely on the effectiveness of incorporating further sectors into the power system. This is an opportunity that neither Poland nor Europe can afford to miss, noted Grzegorz Onichimowski, CEO of Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne who also serves as President of PEIH.
- The success of energy transition is contingent upon the establishment of a secure and robust transmission infrastructure. In Poland, we have been actively developing solutions to integrate biomethane into the national transmission system, while also exploring the potential for the development of a regional hydrogen corridor involving several Baltic states. Through PEIH, we intend to proactively shape European energy policy by promoting Poland’s expertise and a transition model based on an integrated transmission system for various energy carriers, whilst bolstering the energy resilience of both Poland and the wider region, emphasised Sławomir Hinc, President of GAZ-SYSTEM and Vice-President of PEIH.
Jakub Przyborowicz, representing GAZ-SYSTEM as a Head of the Company’s Office in Brussels, was appointed as the Director of PEIH.– The joint project launched in collaboration with the NATO demonstrates that the investment projects implemented by PERN are increasingly integrating into a broader European security architecture. Through our involvement in PEIH, we aim to be actively engaged in decisions that are critical to the future of European infrastructure and Polish energy security, added Daniel Świętochowski, CEO at PERN and Vice-President of PEIH.
