LNG Terminal in Świnoujście Launches New Tanker Truck Loading Facility
GAZ-SYSTEM is expanding operational capacity of the Świnoujście LNG Terminal. The company has completed the expansion of the loading facility for tanker trucks transporting liquefied natural gas and has launched the fourth loading bay. Consequently, the terminal can now accommodate up to 60 tanker trucks per day, increasing its previous handling capacity by half. This marks the next stage in the development of LNG infrastructure in Poland.
- We are building a new energy security framework for Poland and the entire region. Expanding the capacity of the LNG Terminal in Świnoujście constitutes another component of this consistently deployed strategy. Every investment in LNG infrastructure strengthens our country’s strategic importance on the European energy landscape. Over the past year, we have consistently accelerated the development of pivotal gas infrastructure projects; advancing from the expansion of the LNG terminal, through the construction of an FSRU in the Gulf of Gdańsk, to substantial upgrades across our transmission network and storage facilities. This comprehensive energy system initiative aims to boost national resilience, eliminate regional vulnerability to energy blackmail and consolidate Poland’s position as a regional gas distribution hub, emphasises Miłosz Motyka, Minister for Energy.
The tanker truck loading service is available round the clock, seven days a week. Liquefied natural gas is dispatched from the terminal to on-site regasification facilities for conversion from a liquid to a gaseous state and subsequently delivered to consumers through distribution networks.– The LNG Terminal in Świnoujście is gaining importance not only as a facility for receiving liquefied natural gas shipments, but also for managing its distribution throughout Poland. That is why we are gradually developing our infrastructure to increase its capacity. We began by commissioning the third in-process LNG storage tank, subsequently added the second jetty, and are now launching the fourth tanker truck loading facility. Each of these investment projects increases the flexibility of our system and contributes to Poland’s energy security. Concurrently, further projects in the Gulf of Gdańsk are being implemented with a view to meeting the market’s growing demand for LNG, said Sławomir Hinc, President of GAZ-SYSTEM Management Board.
Since the launch of the loading service, the Świnoujście LNG Terminal has successfully handled over 57,000 tanker trucks which distributed over 2.3 million m³ of liquefied natural gas. So far this year, GAZ-SYSTEM has dispatched approximately 250,000 m³ of LNG by 6,000 tanker trucks. Approximately 18 tonnes of LNG can be loaded on a single tanker truck, which is roughly 40 m³ of liquefied natural gas. In the regasification process, it is expanded to nearly 24,000 m³ of natural gas, as LNG increases its volume nearly 600-fold.
Scaling up loading and transshipment capabilities is a core component of the broader LNG infrastructure expansion initiative currently implemented by GAZ-SYSTEM. The company is not only increasing the capacity of the LNG Terminal in Świnoujście but is also developing new import capacity along the Polish coast by building floating regasification terminals in the Gulf of Gdańsk. Consequently, LNG is set to become a vital anchor in safeguarding national energy security and broadening the country's gas supply options.
