GAZ-SYSTEM increases the transmission capacity to Ukraine from February 2026
This is yet another measure taken by the Operator to support the security of gas supplies to Ukraine.
Increased transmission capacity towards Ukraine is possible owing to modernisation of the gas metering station in Hermanowice completed in December 2025. The increased transmission capacity towards Ukraine also results from the current technical and commercial conditions of the domestic transmission network.
This solution is also the consequence of GAZ-SYSTEM's active involvement and efforts. The company is working towards improving the conditions for gas transmission across the country. These changes are also possible owing to favourable market conditions.
Following positive outcome of technical tests, GAZ decided to increase the total (firm and interruptible) capacity from 600,000 cubic metres per hour to 720,000 cubic metres per hour between February and the end of April 2026.
Currently, the transmission capacity towards Ukraine is as follows:
- from 1.02.2026 to 31.03. 2026 – firm capacity of 5 197 000 kWh/h (approx. 460 000 m3/h), and additional interruptible capacity of 2 938 000 kWh/h (260 000 m3/h);
- from 1.04. 2026 to 30.06. 2026 – firm capacity of 5 197 000 kWh/h (approx. 460 000 m3/h);
- from 1.04.2026 to 30.04. 2026 – additional interruptible capacity of 2 938 000 kWh/h (approx. 260 000 m3/h);
- from 1.05.2026 to 30.06.2026 – additional interruptible capacity of 1 582 000 kWh/h (approx. 140 000 m3/h);
- from 1.07.2026 to 30.09.2026 – firm capacity of 3 390 000 kWh/h (approx. 300 000 m3/h), and additional interruptible capacity of 3 390 000 kWh/h (300 000 m3/h).
The auction offer, including uncontracted capacity for individual products, will be published on GSA Platform in accordance with auction schedule.
Interruptible products for February 2026 will be auctioned on 27 January. The dates of the forthcoming auctions are available at: GSA Platform.
The recently implemented solution is only temporary. Technical upgrade of export system capabilities providing robust and larger natural gas supply Ukraine requires additional investments in transmission infrastructure.
In order to evaluate market developments, GAZ-SYSTEM regularly conducts surveys and market screening to determine the actual and sustained demand for gas transmission between the neighbouring countries. Such procedures enable informed decision-making process with respect to whether the Company should proceed with the expansion of gas transmission system which entails substantial expenses. We therefore invite all market participants to join the incremental capacity procedure with Ukraine scheduled in July 2025 which will serve as a reference for reassessment of market interest in long-term cross-border incremental capacity.
