GAZ-SYSTEM is to increase gas export capability towards Ukraine

GAZ-SYSTEM and the Ukrainian transmission system operator Gas TSO of Ukraine (GTSOU) have agreed on a technical solution to temporarily increase the offered firm capacity at the exit point towards Ukraine (GCP GAZ-SYSTEM/UA TSO).

In consideration of the necessity to secure gas supplies during the gas storage filling period reported by the Ukrainian transmission system operator, and in response to the need to increase gaseous fuel supplies in that direction on account of scarce supply options and negligible domestic gas reserves in Ukraine, GAZ-SYSTEM decided to employ additional measures aimed at finding a solution to improve the transmission efficiency towards eastern cross-border interconnection.

Considering Ukraine’s particularly difficult situation due to cessation of gas transit through the Ukrainian transmission system since January 2025, and the current gas market conditions at Poland’s eastern neighbour, GAZ-SYSTEM S.A.  has analysed the possibility of implementing a temporary solution on an exceptional basis (i.e. until completion of modernization of the metering station in Hermanowice), in order to enable the increase in the capacity of gas transmission network towards Ukraine.

In view of the above, GAZ-SYSTEM decided to increase monthly product offering at the auctions scheduled on 16 June, and to temporarily offer additional firm capacity of up to 5 424 000 kWh as part of daily and intra-day products from 1 July to 31 July. Uncontracted transmission capacities under previously offered products will be offered at the GCP GAZ-SYSTEM/UA interconnection point depending on the available transmission capability. More details on individual products are provided on the GSA Platform.

Nevertheless, the solution referred to above is only temporary, and the current technical and commercial conditions of the national transmission network are sufficient to provide assistance to Ukraine by ensuring uninterrupted natural gas supply.

The improvement of export system capabilities that will provide long-term stability of gas supply to Ukraine requires additional investments in transmission infrastructure.

In order to assess market developments, GAZ-SYSTEM regularly conducts surveys and market screening to determine the actual and sustained demand for gas transmission between the neighbouring countries. Such procedures provide valuable information in the decision-making process whether the Company should cover the expenses associated with expansion of gas transmission system. We therefore encourage all market participants to join the incremental capacity procedure planned in July 2025 on the basis of which the Company will reassess market interest in long-term cross-border incremental capacity with Ukraine.
