GAZ-SYSTEM has been implementing the ESG Policy integrated with the current company strategy and including an action plan in the following areas: energy transition, gas market in the region, energy security, social responsibility and operational efficiency.

The ESG Policy reflects integration of the company's strategic directions and objectives with actions in the ESG area and the pursuit of the company’s sustainable development while building long-term value for the stakeholders.

- Updating the company's strategy and the adoption of the ESG Policy is our response to the dynamic developments in the social and economic environment as well as the challenges related to the energy transition process in which we want to be actively involved – says Adam Bryszewski, Vice-President of the Management Board of GAZ-SYSTEM.

The document defines the TSO's approach to sustainable development and sets out a plan for the implementation of ESG initiatives that will support the accomplishment of business objectives within the five strategic directions.

The first direction is energy transition, which involves mitigating the environmental impact of the company's operations. The operator aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain, including by modernising and adapting its gas transmission infrastructure to transport such decarbonised gases as biomethane and hydrogen. At the same time, the company is driving initiatives to develop the market for low-carbon gases and CCUS (Carbon  Capture Utilisation and Storage) technologies, which reduce CO2 emissions through its capture from industrial processes, its reuse in various applications and its permanent storage in safe geological formations. In this way, CCUS technologies support the goals of sustainable development and energy transition.

With regard to the development of the gas market in the region, the operator is actively involved in the expansion of the infrastructure and the diversification of gas supply, e.g. through the implementation of the FSRU Project. It is also continually working to increase the efficiency, stability and reliability of the operation of the Polish National Transmission System.

In the area of energy security, the operator is enhancing the protection of systems against cyberthreats. It is building the resilience of its IT infrastructure, developing the competences of employees and increasing the cybersecurity-related knowledge and awareness of both internal and external users.

The company also puts emphasis on social responsibility, supporting the well-being of its employees by implementing programmes to improve occupational health and safety and developing their competences. It implements ESG principles in the supply chain management, continuously improves customer service and takes measures to increase and share knowledge of the operator and the market participants. In addition, it engages in charitable and sponsorship activities, thereby supporting local communities.

In the area of operational efficiency, the company consistently improves its operations, optimises costs and implements innovative solutions. Sustainability principles are being systematically integrated into daily operations and strategic decisions, which includes integrating ESG aspects into the management processes.

Each of the prepared 86 ESG initiatives has been defined in terms of its implementation schedule, metrics and deliverables, the organisational unit responsible for its delivery or cooperation in its implementation, as well as attributed to a specific UN Sustainable Development Goal and to the European Sustainability Reporting Standards. The ESRS standards set out uniform principles and requirements for reporting information related to the environmental, social and corporate governance impacts of companies' activities, allowing greater transparency and comparability of ESG reports across the European Union.

The ESG Policy adopted by GAZ-SYSTEM in 2024 is a response to the requirements of the CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive) on corporate sustainability reporting and the amended Polish Accounting Act.  According to these regulations, companies should present how the needs of the company's stakeholders and its impact on sustainability issues have been taken into account in the business strategy, as well as present how the strategy has been implemented in relation to sustainability issues.

Under the ESG management structure adopted at GAZ-SYSTEM, the company monitors, on a quarterly basis, the stage of implementation of the initiatives set out in the ESG Policy. In the first quarter of 2025, 6 of the 86 initiatives envisaged for 2025-2027 were fully implemented. The document assumes that the ESG Policy will be updated after each sustainability reporting cycle in order to adapt the ESG initiatives to reflect the current business requirements and conclusions drawn from the dialogue with the stakeholders. The results of the ESG Policy implementation and details of the specific actions will be presented, among others, in the company's sustainability reports.
