The LNG Terminal in Świnoujście Is Open for Imports from the United States

Photo of the article GAZ-SYSTEM in cooperation with the U.S. Embassy in Poland organized a business conference “Poland: Gateway for U.S. LNG to Central & Eastern Europe” in Warsaw. It is the first event in the region allowing for the establishment of contacts and exchange of experience between representatives of American businesses exporting liquefied natural gas (LNG) and potential LNG customers from Central and Eastern Europe.
Among the conference guests were representatives from the Polish and American government, representatives from diplomatic posts, and from the largest natural gas companies in the region. The meeting was opened with the speeches by Mr Tomasz Stępień, President of the Management Board of GAZ-SYSTEM, Mr Piotr Naimski, the Government Plenipotentiary for Strategic Energy Infrastructure, Ms Robin Dunnigan, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Energy Diplomacy in the Bureau of Energy Resources at the U.S. Department of State, and John Anderson Director of the Office of Regulation and International Engagement, U.S. Department of Energy.
The event provided an excellent opportunity to present new possibilities of importing liquefied natural gas to Central and Eastern Europe, in particular the U.S. export potential and conditions for contracting LNG deliveries with American partners. The President Lech Kaczyński LNG Terminal in Świnoujście, operating commercially since 2016, thus will become an actual gateway for deliveries of liquefied natural gas exported by producers from around the world to customers in this part of Europe.
The conference explained the rules for using the Polish gas port. Existing and potential customers also acquainted themselves with the procedures and requirements of natural gas transmission to customers in Poland, as well as the possibilities of gas transit to businesses operating in Ukraine, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, or Hungary.

At present, after regasification, the LNG Terminal in Świnoujście may provide the National Transmission System with 5 bn m3 of gas annually. GAZ-SYSTEM analyses various variants of extension and increasing the functionality of the gas port. After the extension, its capacity might reach up to 10 bn m3 of gas annually.
In the upcoming ten years, GAZ-SYSTEM plans to concentrate its activities on investments enabling the increased capacity of the Polish natural gas transmission network  from various sources and the development of technical possibilities to transport gas from various sources and directions, including access to global gas markets thanks to the efficient use of the LNG Terminal on the Polish coast.
The purpose is to increase energy security in Central and Eastern Europe and meet the expectations of the customers for whom access to the global LNG market constitute a chance for greater competitiveness and more beneficial pricing conditions.
