GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. is supporting the educational initiative at the AGH University of Science and Technology.

The Inter-Faculty Numerical Laboratory of Logistics and Management is used to analyse the operations of both transmission and distribution gas networks. The software simulates the fixed and variable gas flow in high and low pressure networks.
The idea behind the Laboratory was the educational programme at the full-time and part-time supplementary MA course at the Faculty of Energy and Fuels within the compulsory specialist subjects. The new laboratory will also serve students from the Faculty of Drilling, Oil and Gas. "The classes that are conducted, which are based on the simulators used in the gas industry are very popular among students. One of the requirements in the education of future gas engineers in Poland is also the ability to use software in the management of gas networks, which is becoming a European educational standard,” Prof. Stanisław Nagy, Head of the Department of Gas Engineering commented.
These types of simulation calculations are performed on a daily basis in GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. At present, the Company possesses two independent SIMONE software facilities – off-line and on-line. The off-line facility is used to conduct the technical analysis, designating the reserve and available capacity as well as calculations supporting planning the development of the transmission system. The on-line facility supplements the on-going work of the dispatcher. It is also used in cyclical calculations based on the demand forecast in exit points and in verifying the calibration of the network model.
"The new version of SIMONE software that was purchased in response to the programme requirements of AGH University of Science and Technology as well as due to the very positive experience of working with the previous version of the system. In previous years approx. 30 students per academic year had contact with the software and 10 people could become more familiarised with it on a long-term basis. The number of people that can use the system has now increased to 60, of which approx. 40 students can now have more frequent access to the programme,” the coordinator of the Laboratory Krzysztof Kogut, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Fuels and Energy in AGH, commented.

The Inter-Faculty Numerical Laboratory of Logistics and Management as well as the Management of Transmission Systems is one of the projects being fulfilled under the cooperation agreement in the scope of didactic activity and exchange of scientific and technical information, which was concluded on 19 April 2010 between the Gas Transmission Operator GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. and the AGH University of Science and Technology in Cracow.
The agreement is being performed in cooperation with the Faculty of Drilling, Oil and Gas and with the Energy and Fuels Faculty at AGH University of Science and Technology. Apart from supporting the development of the didactic and scientific and research base, the agreement also concerns the joint organisation of scientific conferences. The next 2nd International Conference OIL-GAS AGH 2011 dedicated to "New methods and technologies of oil geology, drilling, geoengineering, reservoir engineering and gas" will be held on 8 to 10 June 2011.
According to the adopted Corporate Social Responsibility Programme, GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. is actively getting involved in dialogue with the milieu and supporting initiatives in the field of ecology and education. The AGH University of Science and Technology is the first such university with which the Gas Transmission Operator GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. entered into cooperation under a long-term project of supporting educational activities. One of the forms of cooperation is enabling the students of the AGH University of Science and Technology to have specialist work experience at the Company.
